The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
If you are a student in Sydney in years 4, 5, 6 or 7 then you can enter the BIBLE BUILD MINECRAFT COMPETITION to compete for prizes. 1st Prize is an ELGATO STREAM DECK NEO BUNDLE PLUS VIDEO CAPTURE/LIVE-STREAM DEVICE (requires a Computer) worth over $770 PLUS a 2 hour setup session at your home. Runner-up prizes include $200 and $100 EB Games Vouchers.
Through this competition we hope to raise much needed funding for 2 schools in poverty-stricken areas in KENYA and CAMBODIA. Many children cannot afford to go to school or the quality of locals schools is such that children are not taught enough to get into senior schools and then universities or vocational colleges. This results in the inability to get a job and so they are trapped in the poverty cycle.
Watch the videos below to learn about HOSANNA GARDENS COMPREHESIVE SCHOOL in Mikameni, KENYA.
In 2015, Sydney Hosanna worked with our partners in Kenya to build a high quality school in the rural town of Mikameni, Kenya which suffers from severe poverty and did not have a local school that provided a quality education that could lead to further education.
Now through the Hosanna Gardens School, Sydney Hosanna and partners are able to provide a top-quality Christian education to the children in Mikameni so that they can eventually go on to university, helping them to lift themselves and their community out of poverty.
Since 2003, Sydney Hosanna has helped to build and maintain a primary school and also high school in one of the very disadvantaged areas of Phnom Penh. This has grown to now over 800 students, many of whom are now Christians or have learned the Christian ethos that gives hope for their futures and breaks the cycle of poverty in the community.
Some of the graduates from Hope School have become teachers and returned to Hope School as teachers to continue the cycle of blessing and give back to the community that gave them so much. Now you can help to be a blessing to the Hope School and surrounding community.
To enter, build any scene from the STORY OF NOAH'S FLOOD found in Genesis chapters 6 - 8. Submit between 4 to 5 photos or a maximum 60 second video that shows some details and also the overall scene you have created. It is advisable not to spend more than 4 or 5 hours creating your scene. There is a $10 entry fee which will be donated to one of the schools that we support in Cambodia and Kenya.
You can use skins and commands (/fill or /hollow etc) to build your scene but you should not use mods as the FINALS do not allow mods to be used. You can reference other people's work but the final scene you create should be your own work and ideas (not an exact copy of someone else's work).
Capture your build: for WINDOWS (press WIN LOGO + SHIFT and S) for MAC (press SHIFT+COMMAND and 3). Otherwise put a camera on a tripod and film but ensure there is no glare reflecting on off the computer/laptop screen.
10 semi-finalists will be announced on 3rd of October.
THE CRITERIA FOR SELECTING THE 10 SEMI-FINALISTS ARE:
1. The work must reflect one or more aspects of the BIBLE SCENE GIVEN (eg. could show Noah building the ark, animals going on to the ark, the ark in the middle of the sea, the ark resting on a mountain, etc). You do not have to build a complete ark or tell the whole story. You could choose to complete one side only so that the scene is complete from one viewing angle. You may also focus on a small aspect of the scene such as Noah feeding animals inside one section or room on the ark.
2. The work should have some element of either creativity, wow or fun factor or something that would make you look twice or go, "wow that's clever!" We also recommend it should be something you can build in approximately 4 or 5 hours. Years 4, 5 and 6 students will receive 15, 10 and 5 point handi-cap to their score, respectively. Entries are judged out of a total of 100 points.
On the 3rd October semi-finalists will receive an email and they MUST book immediately to have a test and interview at the Sydney Hosanna offices between the 4th ~ 7th October. During the 90 minute session the semi-finalists have to build a small scene (you don't have to complete the scene but it's your chance to show off your Minecraft skills).
You will also be interviewed so that we can get to know you and we can also introduce you to the audience if you become a finalist. Be prepared to answer basic questions about yourself such as where you were born, what are your hobbies, when you started playing Minecraft and why you like playing Minecraft. THREE FINALISTS will be chosen after all test/interviews have been completed. There is a FOURTH FINALIST, see the details below...
When Semi-Finalists are announced they will each receive a dedicated fundraising page so that friends and family can donate to the fundraiser. Of the 10 Semi-finalists, whoever raises the most by the end of WEDNESDAY 8th October, will get a WILDCARD ENTRY TO FINALS.
On THURSDAY 9th of OCTOBER, the FOUR FINALISTS will be announced. The Bible Scene that needs to be built in the finals will also be announced and the FOUR FINALISTS will have 2 days to prepare. FINALISTS can bring in drawings or printouts to refer to. They can also bring a USB with a Minecraft skin if they wish to do so. However, the USB cannot contain anything else except the skin to change your character. Sydney Hosanna staff will assist with adding the character skin then the USB will be removed.
The FINALS will be held on SATURDAY 11th OCTOBER and run for approximately 4 hours with a lunch break of approximately 30 minutes at 12 noon and a snack break of 20 minutes in the afternoon. During the FINALS all FINALISTS are prohibited from using mobile phones and are not allowed to communicate with anyone outside. Parents can remain at the offices but cannot enter the Competition area. Competitors may have lunch with their parents but must remain at the Sydney Hosanna offices for lunch.
Check back closer to the date for exciting updates!
Sydney Hosanna supports 2 schools for children living with extreme poverty. We are raising money to support HOPE SCHOOL in Cambodia and HOSANNA GARDENS COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL (HGCS) in Kenya.
Through this fundraising competition we hope to raise money to support the work of both schools and the children that attend. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be sent to Kenya and Cambodia to help provide meals and a top quality Christian education to children, many of whom are not able to have one meal every day. Your support will help to lift families in these communities out of extreme poverty.
